Moving or Debating?

hello everyone…sorry its been so long since i’ve posted. i always seem to feel like posting when i have some topic that i just want to discuss…or something good like that, so here i go again…..i write this as much for myself as for anybody else.
While the troops of Mahomet II surrounded Constantinople in 1493 and it had to be decided if the Balkans would be under Christian or Mohammedan dominion for centuries, a local church council in the beseiged city discussed the following problems: What color had the eyes of the virgin Mary? What gender do the angels have? If a fly falls in sanctified water, is the fly sanctified, or the water defiled? It may only be a legend, as concerns those times, but peruse Church periodicals of today and you will find that questions just like this are discussed. The menace of persecutors and the sufferings of the underground church are scarcely ever mentioned. Instead, there are endless discussions about theological matters, about rituals, about nonessentials…In formerly Communist Russia, no one remebered the arguments for or against child or adult baptism, for or against papal infallibility. They are not pre- or postmillennialists. They cannot interpret prophecies and don’t quarrel about them, but I have wondered very often at how well they could prove the existence of God to atheists.
Richard Wurmbrand – Founder of the Voice of the Martyrs, spent 14 years in a communist prison in Rmania (1940’s-1960’s).
So instantly, my question is what do you think when you read something like this? Do you believe its true or not? Worldwide, Christians gather to discuss what seems like the silliest or most irrelevant of points. if you don’t believe me, check out christian magazines such as ‘christianity today,’ or just walk into the local christian bookstore and look at the magazine rack. today you can have 80,000 people show up at a prophecy convention to discuss and debate what should be a minor issue…..i mean, God said one day he’s going to come back, and until then the job of a Christian should be to ‘go and make disciples of all nations’ just as Jesus said before he ascended (matt. 29v18-20). at the same time that these prophecy conventions are going on…a great shortage in Christians willing to step outside of their countries….much less even their backyards exist. just from a quick glance at…i counted dozens countries that have a population of less than 80,000….most of them in europe and asia in areas where christianity is not prevelant, and where people simply exist in life. what would happen in 80,000 flooded one of these countries? what happened if the country of lichtenstien (pop 30,000, located in central europe) became a haven for persecuted christians? or even because of its central location in europe, if would be an incredible sending base smack in the middle of atheist europe….where God is less respected and acknowledged than in ‘uncivilized’ africa and asia. Too often as christians…we minor on the major things, and major on the minor things. we have heard the doctrines of baptism, communion, angels, eschatology, tounges, and countless countless other ones, but how often have we heard or shared the simple plan of salvation? two of the most popular books on christian shelves today are ’90 minutes in heaven’ and ’23 minutes in hell’….but have we ever spent half of that time telling people how to go to heaven…or how to escape hell? are there many reasons why believers shouldn’t agree with Billy Graham, who once said “the greatest single reason for atheism today, is christian who acknowledge Jesus with their words, but deny him with their actions.” a family who i am friends with told this story to me last night, that recently a member of the Jehovah’s Witness’ came to their door….and seeing that this lady i know was, in his words, ‘a very religious person’…he asked her an awesome question… much does your faith really mean to you? This Jehovah’s Witness rightly said, and said it well….that if your faith is not enough to make you want to go out and share it with everyone around you….your faith is not really faith at all. What are you doing with the incredible gift of salvation that God has given? and i ask that question to myself as well…so often i just sit there and hold onto it….staring at it and just looking at its beauty……but it is a gift that is made to be given away again!
I will end this by stating the following….whenever it is that this world is over and every person on earth bows before Christ Jesus in His presence…who/what angels are, when/if Christ returns, or any other like issue…..will not matter. the only thing that will matter there, is which side of heaven and hell each and every soul there is headed towards. am i…are you…working towards making sure more will be there to glorify God, or are we spending our time on earth ‘enjoying’ a good debate over irrelevant issues?
“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!'” – Revelation 7v9-10
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gae up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” – Revelation 20v11-15
